The year of kindness

happy-new-year

Ring out the old, ring in the new! Never has this been more true for me, at the start of a fresh, new, year and the start of a fresh, new, business. Everyone I have spoken to lately appears to be glad to see the back of 2016 – and I admit, it was a hard year for a variety of reasons: loss (RIP all those who lost their lives and thank you for the pleasure you brought to us all), changes in how the country will move forwards (Brexit), and global insecurities being the main things that people will remember. Man’s inhumanity to man has reared its ugly head, far too often for comfort, and the meme that has been doing the rounds that depicts a child asking an adult what happened in 2016, and the adult replying ‘hush, we don’t talk about 2016’, is, perhaps, slightly too close to the bone to be really funny.

I hope that this new year, 2017, brings about a change in people’s values: that we all look upon one another as equals, that we realise that each human life is unique, precious and worthwhile. I hope that 2017 is the year of kindness. I long for peace and kindness on earth. Facile? Perhaps. But it is a heartfelt wish and one I intend to practice, albeit on a very small scale in the grand scheme of things.

Perhaps, if we all make a concerted effort to be kind to each other, particularly to those who have less advantages in life than we do, we can all make a small difference. Who knows, if there are enough small differences, together we can make a large difference in this glorious world we have inherited…

I wish everybody a happy, peaceful and, above all, kind, new year.
